Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our finance team. This role is responsible for managing end-to-end tax compliance, preparing tax returns and provisions, supporting tax audits, and delivering accurate tax reporting in accordance with Australian Tax Office (ATO) regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical knowledge in Australian tax law, solid accounting experience, and a proactive approach to advising on tax planning and process improvement.
The primary areas of focus include:
• Preparing and producing financial statements and tax returns for a range of entities.
• Reviewing BAS statements prepared by junior team.
• Understanding our team workflow and ensuring client deliverables are met to a high standard.
• Promptly following up and addressing client queries.
• Support the junior accounting team through coaching and development.
• Provide general taxation and accounting advice to clients as and when needed.
Key Areas of Responsibility Professional Excellence:• Review the integrity of accounting information provided by clients and prepare queries.
• Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analysing account information.
• Preparation of workpapers to support year end compliance jobs, including Division 7A calculations, capital gains, FBT, GST reconciliations etc.
• Preparation of financial statements and income tax returns for a variety of structures, including companies and trusts.
• Liaising with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and other regulatory bodies when required.
• Accurate recording of your time on a real time basis and prompt communication of budget status.
Client Service:
• Develop and maintain professional colleague, employee and client relationships.
• Develop and apply knowledge and understanding of the specific environments our client’s businesses operate within.
• Inspire service excellence with the team.
• Appropriately manage difficult clients or situations with care & professionalism; escalate issues to Directors as appropriate.
• Enforce ethical accounting practices.
• Build trusted relationships with clients by managing queries and ad hoc email and telephone correspondence.
• Coordinating more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting team.
• Maintain strong time management, organizational and planning skills.
• Leadership:
• Attend workflow meetings with the team to set the day and week up for success and prioritise workloads.
• Lead by example in terms of working cooperatively and problem solving to deliver to client’s needs.
• Provide support to team members where needed to ensure work is completed to timelines and requirements.
• Ensure Graduates are appropriately trained.
• Provide high level of technical mentoring to the accounting team; in liaison with Directors encourage & help enable their professional development.
Occupational Health & Safety:• Exercise a duty of care to ensure actions don’t negatively impact the health and/or safety of others or self in the workplace.
• Ensure that anything provided for health and safety is not willfully or recklessly interfered with or misused.
• Ensure compliance with any of the company’s OHS policies, procedures and any reasonable instruction given by the company.
Continuous Improvement:• Identify & implement process improvements as necessary
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to all accounting systems and processes to provide best in class reporting and forecasting services.
• Actively seek out and work on professional development initiatives.
Other:• Help to maintain and improve the business image and brand in the marketplace.
• Other tasks as reasonably requested or directed by Directors.
Requirements
• Minimum of 4 years of AU Tax Accounting Experience
• Must have Experience - Xero, Microsoft 365
• Degree qualified in accounting or related qualification.
• CA qualified is desirable.
• Previous experience and proven success in a senior accounting role, providing advice and solutions to a range of clients, in particular to small- medium businesses and SMSFs.
